On 4 December, 2007 the group of UN Environment Theme Group colleagues - UNDP, WFP and FAO together with Armenia Tree Project conducted a monitoring visit to Lori Region – Alaverdi city. Lead by UN Resident Representative / UNDP Resident Coordinator the group was warmly received by the mayor of Alaverdi – Mr. Arthur Nalbandyan. Parties has discussed cooperation modalities and agreed to identify possible technical assistance to Municipality of Alaverdy for development of mid to long term development strategy of the city with consideration of the environmental issues.

Participants visited the project site of 3,5 ha in Sanahin district where 15,000 seedlings has been planted. The project ensured involvement of 53 local residents through the Food for Work modality. Mayor Nalbandyan promised to ensure that seedlings will be taken care of during the upcoming months. Parties also indicated importance of children involvement in tree planting activities.
