On 22 October “Education and Career EXPO 2008” 9th international specialized exhibition opened in “Moscow House” business-cultural center, where more than 40 local and foreign organizations were represented. During the opening ceremony the Executive Director of “LOGOS Expo Center” company Ara Stepanyan noted that the educational system is the basis for consolidation of each country and, in order to have a stable country, it is necessary to start with education in the schools. UNDP in Armenia participated in this exhibition with two projects: “Support the Modernization of Vocational Education and Training (VET) System in Armenia” and “Fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to achieve MDGs in the framework of the UN Global Compact.” UNDP “Support the Modernization of Vocational Education and Training (VET) System in Armenia” project aims at strengthening and enhancing of the VET system and assisting the national counterparts in piloting VET reforms by developing state qualification standards, curricula, and manuals, conducting training programs, as well as rehabilitating VET institutions and upgrading them with state-of-the-art facilities and IT technologies. The Global Compact project, which is implemented in Armenia by UNDP since 2006, consists of a network of 31 members and implements a number of joint partnership projects in various sectors. The most successful projects in the field of education/career are “10 Best School Projects” and “Youth Career Trail” initiative. “10 Best School Projects” is implemented in partnership with the UC RUSAL with the aim to introduce and develop the idea of social responsibility among schoolchildren in Armenia. During the first round of the project implemented in 2007-2008 twelve classes from different schools of Yerevan were granted AMD 1 million each for realization of their ideas, such as establishment of a school museum, revival of school theatre, creation of green zones etc. “Youth Career Trail” initiative aims to fulfill the gap between the education and employment providing the fresh graduates with opportunity of first time employment through paid internships in leading companies/organizations of Armenia. As a result of the first two rounds of the initiative implemented in 2007-2008, 40 out of 100 interns were offered permanent positions by the employers after passing the internship program. |
