The UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Consuelo Vidal and the Prime Minister of Republic of Armenia, Mr. Tigran Sargsyan commemorated the 64th anniversary of UN. High-ranking government officials, representatives of diplomatic community, international organizations, civil society and media celebrated this event together with their UN partners today in the evening. In the morning some fifty schoolchildren visited the UN Armenia Office within the “UN Open Doors for Children” Action. They drew pictures on “Peace in the World”, “United Nations in the eyes of children”, “Tolerance”, “National and cultural diversity”. The UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Consuelo Vidal welcomed the children: “You, as young artists, through your drawings, through your education, through your behavior are powerful spokespersons of the values of the UN. Your drawings communicate your understanding and commitment for peace and being “united””. She also thanked to all UN partners, government, civil society and media for their cooperation and support to the work of the different UN Funds Agencies and Programmes in Armenia. During the solemn UN Flag raising ceremony which was attended by the UN Armenia staff, media and general public the children saluted and cheered the audience with balloons and small UN flags. The UN Secretary General video message was screened. As part of his speech Mr. Ban Ki-moon said: “On this UN Day, let us resolve to redouble our efforts on behalf of the vulnerable, the powerless, the defenceless. Let us stand more united than ever – united in purpose and united in action to make the world a safer, better place”. |
