On 26 June Mr. Dirk Boberg, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative and Mr. Hovsetsyan, head of Ajapnyak Administrative District of Yerevan joined Mr. Aram Hovsepyan, President of the “Civil Society Institute” NGO in a one day “garbage cleaning” action at Halabyan 23, Yerevan.

The project has been initiated by the local “Civil Society Institute” NGO with the objective of mobilizing citizens for volunteer action while raising their attention towards environmental issues.

The inhabitants of the surrounding buildings, students of the Linguistic Institute after V. Bryusov, the youth branches of the World Armenian Congress NGO and the Church of Ararat Diocese, and environmental activists took part in the event.

“Environmental issues concern everybody. Events like this one demonstrate that citizens are concerned and wish to take direct action for environment. Thanks to the initiative of CSI NGO and the support of the municipality, we are here today to capitalize on unity of action and to support the change towards a more responsible environmental behavior,” said Dirk Boberg.

UNDP in Armenia is among others striving to support Armenian people in their efforts to adapt, innovate, and mitigate environmental issues. Through its UNV Programme, UNDP aims at bringing citizens together to show their commitment to environmental issues.
