Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Around the world more than 22 million people have died from aids, 40 million people have been infected and every day 13,000 more people become infected. Prevention, information and the availability of medicines are of vital importance.

Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases; halt and begin to reverse HIV/AIDS and other diseases.



Armenia Context

Both targets under this goal are relevant for Armenia and therefore are not altered.



Nationalized MDG Targets and Indicators:


Target 1: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/Aids.

Indicators:

  • HIV prevalence among pregnant women

  • Percentage of population aged 15 to 24 reporting the use of a condom during sexual intercourse with a non-regular sex partner

  • Percentage of population aged 15 to 24 years with comprehensive correct knowledge of HIV/AIDS


Target 2: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases.

Indicators:

  • Malaria prevalence (local cases)

  • Tuberculosis incidence per 100.000 population

  • Proportion of tuberculosis cases detected and cured under DOTS (internationally recommended TB control strategy)
